New Multi-Purpose Jack-Up rig will have Norwegian Flag
The new BT-400PAU will receive NIS flag when completed.
A new multi-purpose Jack-Up rig which will be built in China for OIM Pte. Ltd. will have Norwegian flag when delivered in 2020.
This is disclosed by the Norwegian Maritime Directorate (NMA) in a press release on Thursday.
Originally the rig, which is designed for Norwegian and British waters, was to be registered in the Marshall Islands. After discussions with the NMA, OIM changed their opinion.
We discussed on topics like regulations and technical requirements and realised that having Norwegian flag (NIS) had many advantages for OIM and the rig projects. The expertise within the NMA can contribute to solve matters that we would spend time and money to solve ourselves, says Oddgeir Indrestrand, President Projects & Markets in OIM.
The rig, branded BT-400PAU, will among others be used for Well Interventions and Plugging and Abandonment of wells.
The rig will also have a heavy lift crane to remove old topsides and platforms.
This rig will be the first new build by OIM Pte. Ltd., which was founded by Oddgeir Indrestrand in 2013.
The rig will be built in the Chinese yard CIMC Yantai Raffles Offshore and classed by DNV-GL.
